Our environmental performance in the various impact categories
As a company whose products are based primarily
on fossil raw materials, we have committed ourselves to a strategy of environmental efficiency. Our
strategy aims to provide the function “waterproofing” while consuming the least amount of resources
(raw materials, energy) and producing as little waste as possible. The long service life and long-term
performance of our products and systems is an essential part of this strategy.
e have thus decided to demonstrate our specific environmental
performance, or the environmental impact we create in each impact category, in relation to the functional
unit “1000 m2 of membrane produced”. “Membrane” here refers to our polymeric roofing and waterproofing
membranes. The calculation of the functional unit is based on the average membrane thickness.
This
average is the weighted arithmetic mean thickness of all the membranes we produce. The weighting reflects
the amounts of each product produced annually. Changes in production output are thus taken into account.
The functional unit takes into account every PVC
and FPO membrane we produce for every field of application. Because we produce different amounts of
the different products each year, the average thickness varies from year to year. The average thickness
over the last four years has been as follows: 1999: 1.44 mm, 2000: 1.52 mm, 2001: 1.47 mm, 2002: 1.44
mm.
